WELL-DISASSEMBLED PIANO

Piano piece in many parts
WELL-DISASSEMBLED PIANO

4-5 October, 11:00-19:00
National Gallery of Art, Konstitucijos ave 22, Vilnius

This performance is the 1st part of the instruction score for un/builders by Arturas Bumšteinas.
Proposition for un/builders

1. A grand concert piano should be placed in the middle of a wide empty space and meticulously disassembled (atomized) into its constituent parts by a group of piano masters.

2. Large modular archival cabinet should be constructed to store all the segregated piano parts. The grand piano constitutes around 10.000 parts, thus the cabinet should be as ergonomic as possible. It should be mobile, so that it could go on tour and be moved around various spaces. This archive of piano parts should be accessed by the invited artists who, using the piano parts of their choice, would construct various musical instruments, sound objects, sculptures etc... The cabinet should be on tour as long as there are piano parts left in it.
